Mark Stawicki has been very, very busy for the past eight years establishing super eatery and drinking holes in Geelong (Victoria) such as Sticks & Grace, Sticks & Grace Kiosk, Mr Hyde and his latest offering, the refreshed, Box Office Café.
Stawicki’s initial vision for Boxy (Box Office Café) was to create a friendly destination with a strong focus on specialty coffee and local, paddock to plate, street food. The tasty menu, with raw and vegetarian offerings, changes frequently and includes the freshest ingredients sourced from local boutique producers. The casual atmosphere is complimented by the use of repurposed building materials to construct the café. Shipping containers and pallets, boat sails and recycled timber add to the eclectic café’s charm.
Stawicki contributes untiringly to the happening Geelong coffee scene. “I’ve seen it really develop to a level that now compares to anything in Melbourne.” says Stawicki, “No-one new what specialty coffee was back then, now everybody loves filter coffees and single origins.” The team at Box Office are keen on coffee. The café is part of the Axil coffee group, a specialty roaster from Melbourne. All coffees are made with love from the Synesso Espresso Machine. “It’s a great workhorse that pulls a fantastic shot.” says Stawicki, “They are very easy to use and very reliable.” Teas and juices are also on the menu.
A trip to Box Office is always enjoyable. Mark describes the generous café as ‘honest, fun and having a big heart’. When you pay a visit expect to share friendly banter with the cheery staff and exit with a contented smile on your face.
